HA1 Task 3 Analysis
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo started off as a crime novel by Stieg Larsson, it got made into a mystery thriller film in 2011. The sotry is about a journalist Mikael Blomkvist's who has been doing an investigation to find out what hapopened to a woman from a wealthy family, she had dissapeared 40 years before. In this he works with the help of a computer haker. All of the title and credit sequences is black and white, fire comes into it half way through. It represents the film a lot, for example the film includes a hacker and the title and credit sequence has a keyboard with blood going between the keys on it. The film includes violence so the blood represents that. There is a lot of blood throughout of it. There are also wires going into a woman who is full of blood, this is because the hacker and another person are trying to find her and they're using a computer to find information about her. The only text which is used throughout of this is the names of the main characters. It is all dark and grey scaled, this gives out a dark, scary and violence atmosphere to the audience. There is a lot of editing in this the grey scale and how it starts of slow 'the girl looks like she is spitting out blood in slow motion' and then towards the end it gets fasters as if it's getting more violent and the blood is coming out alot faster. Rotation has been used throughout all of the title and credit sequence of 'The girl with the dragon tattoo'. Some parts of it have also been sharpened for example when the body is moving it doesn't blur at all.
Final Destination 4;
A college student is watcing a speedway race and then suddenly has a premonition, in which a number of people die whena speedway collapses following a crash. He panics and persuades a variety of people to get out so they survive but then they all die in order different times and different places, but how they get killed is kind of the same way they die in the speedway race. The title and credit sequence is mainly x rays, all of the title and credit sequence has been edited to 'invert colours', doing this has gave it the x ray look. IT also includes blood, fire and car parts. The blood represents that there is blood involved in the movie and the fire is because at the start the car which crashes at the race sets on fire and kills someone. The car parts also is becuase the car falls apart and flys everywhere. The only words used are the names of the main actors and the title of the film.
Scott Pilgrim
Like the other two title sequences it includes blood and black and white scenes. This shows it may bed scary, but unlike the other two is isn't as edited and been put in a certain way. Throughout the title and credit sequence you see people/ the actors where as the other two you don't. Eventhough it isn't as edited their are still parts which are edited such as when the hand gets put on the window, they could haved edited this many ways but they most likely would have got the footage before the hand print and once the hand print had been put there. This may show the audience the film includes ghosts or even something mysterious because they don't know how the hand print got their. Also all of the names of the actors and people whom are behind stage doing make up, directing etcc are in red as if it has been wrote in blood and also has a bit of a dripping look. It's not all the same colour throughout they use some black and white but also parts in normal colours. They've taken certain clips out of the film and included this into title and credit sequence.
HA1 Task 1 Glossary
Pixel:
Resolution:
This is how many pixels a monotor can display. For example; A small montor may have resolution or 640 x 480 this would mean there is 640 pixels horizontally across the screen and 480 pixels vertically. The higher the resolution the more can be displayed on screen.
Screen Rate:
This is the number of frames of an animation which are displayed every seconds, it's measured in frames per second (fps). The higher the frame rate is the smoother the animation will be. (At less than 3- fps the human eye can see the new picture coming onto the screen.)
Video Formats:
The 3 main formats used are HD, NTSC and PAL. HD has the highest resolution. PAL is the UK standard defition image and NTSC is the US standard defintion image. We look at video formats with the term of pixels, (for example: High definition 1080; 1920 x 1080 or 2,073,600 pixels.)
Compression:
Compresion is used to reduce the size of one or more files, when a file has been compresed it takes up less space and can be transferred to other systems quicker than an uncompressed version. This is usually used to save disk space and reduce the time needed to transfer files over the internet.
Pixel is short for picture element, they are small dots which make a smooth and clear image on a screen. The screen is divided into thousands or even millions of pixels but you can't see any of the pixels because of how small they are. Each pixel can only be one colour at a time, but because they're so small they can often blend together to form various shades and blends of colours.

HA2 Task10 - Evaluation
Throughout this project I have learnt what the following things mean and how they relate to motion graphics and compositing video.
- Pixel
- Resolution
- screen rate
- video format
- compression
I have also learnt what the use of motion graphics and compositing video. I have used six types and have broadly explained them and used recent examples of each. The six types are; Interactive menus, web banners, Title and credit sequences, animated captions, stings and Idents. I then analysed each one of them. I chose a Interactive menu from a James Bond movie because they are well known films and I thought it had quite a lot to speak about because of how much editing it has and how much colour has been used. For the Ident I used a channel 4 one because I thought it was quite good and easy to analyse. I think it is a good example of an ident for a tv channel and for the sting I used an E4 one because that TV channel uses a lot of different stings, which get sent in from different people. I also found the sting I used interesting.
I used Adore Illustrator to create three different exercises, these three were the production company logo, eye in stages and four sports portraits. To start with it was complicated but once I knew how to use the tools which I needed to do these they were quite easy to do.
We had a client briefing and during this we had to take notes on what we get told about how they wanted the logo I was going to plan and produce. Once the briefing was over and I produced moodboards with research to get some ideas on what the logo will look like. I looked at other sports logo, their old sports logo and the salford city college logo to help me get some ideas and to see how other logos which related to them and what they wanted it for looked like. I also tried out different texts on the moodboard to see which text would look better on there logo. I chose the different texts and related them to the researche logoes and seen what texts looked good on them. Once I had an idea on what my logo was going to look like I used Adobe Illustrator to experiment with the fonts I had chosen and to look at what symbols worked well and related to the logo I was producing. I made sure it was suitable for a new SCC Academy Logo. I kept the the colours simple and related them to the SCC Logo using the colours blue, black, grey and white, I only used them colours so the logo didn't look too much and worked well with the SCC Colleges and it also related to the kit which majority of the sports teams wear. Once I had chosen what I thought worked well and sorted out what colours I was using and what text I wanted to use I finalised my logo. I produced the logo I did because I thought it worked well with the SCC Logo at the moment, but I think it look too simple and I could have made it more relevant.
I carried out three Adobe After Effects exercises, these were Devil rides out, Pony compositing and E4 sting. I did these so I could get an understanding of how to create vector art work. On the devil rides out I watched the tutorial and that's how I learnt how to do majortity of the editing on Adobe After Effects. For the E4 Sting I had to make my own with what I had learnt off doing the Devil rides out. I kept the E4 sting simple but because it had to be a certain amount of time I had to add extra on to it. I found doin the devil rides out a little complicated to start with but after a while I got the hang of it.
Once we found out whos logo got chosen I produced a storyboard, using that logo, which I was going to create using Adobe After Effects. The storyboard was pretty simple to look at but once I actually started making it I had to do it in sections because it was pretty complicated to make. I made two different videos of this one of the actual logo animation on it's own and one with the background of the SCC Academy video behind it. I chose the slighly faded video because it looked better and didn't want the video to cover up logo.
